About the centre
Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania was established in 1997. It investigates all manifestations of genocide and crimes against humanity and humanity and the persecution of the Lithuanian population during the years of occupation, as well as the processes of armed and unarmed resistance to the occupation, investigates the activities of the Diaspora in the West, initiates the legal assessment of the organisers and perpetrators of genocide, perpetuates the memory of the freedom fighters and the victims of the genocide, and searches for the remains of the fallen participants in the freedom struggle. It also collects historical documentary sources, memories of living witnesses related to this period, and publishes documents of the Soviet occupation structures. Remembrance of the victims and public education are carried out in the Museum of Occupations and Naval Struggles, the Tuskulėnai Memorial Complex and other educational programmes. The Centre employs around 150 staff. The most important departments of the Centre are the Genocide and Resistance Research Department and the Memorial Department.
