The hybrid event “Advancing Open Science: The Barcelona Declaration and Open Research Information“ will take place on 6 December 2024 at 11:00 a.m. (EET) at Mykolas Romeris University, 55 Didlaukio St., Vilnius, Lithuania.

At this seminar the transformative principles of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Science will be highlighted, featuring insights from experts and university alliances dedicated to advancing open research practices in Europe.

The event will start with welcome remarks from Prof. Inga Žalėnienė, Rector of Mykolas Romeris University, setting the stage for a keynote Prof. Ludo Waltman from Leiden University, who will delve into the vision behind the Barcelona Declaration. Attendees will also hear from Dr. Eugenijus Stumbrys of the Research Council of Lithuania on Lithuania’s latest open science policies and their impact on national research information.

Throughout the day, representatives from university alliances will share their insights:

  • Dr. Hildrun Walter from the University of Graz, Austria, will present a field report on Arqus Open Science Ambassador Network activities.
  • Prof. Rūta Petrauskaitė from Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania, will discuss open science and research data management initiatives within the Transform4Europe alliance.
  • Dr. Stan Bogdanov from New Bulgarian University, Bulgaria, will highlight ERUA’s efforts in promoting Diamond Open Access.

Further, the seminar will feature discussions on the Research Organisation Registry (ROR) and its impact on scholarly information exchange, with presentations by Amanda French, ROR’s Technical Community Manager at Crossref, and Dr. Vincas Grigas of Vilnius University Faculty of Communication, Lithuania, who will discuss integrating ROR into journal metadata.
